Many residents unaware of how HS2 will affect their homes

16 November, 2016

manchester More than 270,000 residents - some in Greater Manchester and Cheshire - will receive a letter on Wednesday morning from HS2 bosses. It will warn them they are in a ‘safeguarding’ area, their home could be affected by the high speed rail track to cut across the region, and they can apply for compensation. Anyone whose property is on the more serious demolition list received a hand delivered letter on Tuesday. They will be able to claim compensation for losing their homes…

Chris Grayling, the Transport Secretary, said seats on intercity trains linking London, the Midlands and the North will treble from 2033 as he announced the Government’s preferred route for the second phase of the controversial HS2 scheme. This is the wrong decision for South…

16 November, 2016

The South Yorkshire route is still under consultation but one option includes cutting through the Shimmer estate in Mexborough near Doncaster. The government said a decision would not be made until next year. Elsewhere, a kilometre-long (0.6-mile) tunnel will be dug under Woodlesford in West Yorkshire. Originally it was planned to put an HS2 stop for Sheffield at the Meadowhall shopping…

The city council and a range of business organisations argued it was madness to locate…

South Yorkshire estate in the path of HS2 faces more uncertainty

15 November, 2016

shimmer estate After four months of waiting, residents of the newly built Shimmer housing estate in Mexborough are facing yet more uncertainty about the fate of their new homes. In July, 400 residents received a letter from HS2 Ltd informing them that the government would need to acquire “some or all” of their properties if proposals for the high speed rail route through South Yorkshire were approved. While the transport secretary, Chris Grayling, said on Tuesday that a route passing through the estate was the…

15 November, 2016
